PERFECT COMBINATION “I’ve been an athlete all of my life. It was one of those things where my parents decided to sign me up for everything! I was a four-sport letterman in high school, then started modeling in college and wanted to find something that could put the two together. When the bikini division started in 2009, I was all about that.”
CONTEST JITTERS “I felt like it was really important for me to do national show early in the year to get those jitters out and compete at that level. I needed to figure out what I needed to do to feel comfortable to shine through. The biggest difference from Junior USAs to North Americans was confidence and the way I presented myself on stage. There were so many girls at the Junior USAs … I was a little intimidated. Being comfortable and being familiar with the way things are, I was able to perform better.”
GOOD TIMING “Winning the Overall was a huge surprise, I was totally blindsided! My coach looked at me that morning and thought it was my best possible package. I did everything I was supposed to do and that’s how the cards fell. It was a tough competition, there were a lot of great looking girls out there. I just felt like I was in the right place at the right time.”
WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR “I like having something that I can motivate and encourage others to do. Something that I feel has been in me since joining my first volleyball team. I needed to find something to do that I’m good at and is a part of me. I finally found something I always wanted to do, only I had no idea it was what I wanted to do.”
ROLE MODELS “Sonia Gonzales is a big motivator for me. India Paulino, Brooke Hameier. Tawna Eubanks – these are girls that have a different story behind the fitness lifestyle. Their personalities feel very genuine when I’ve met them, and they’re all very consistent and very driven.”
